TWU Local 556 Negotiation Update #5
Dear Member:
We met with Management on January 8 – 10 this week. This was the first negotiating session since the passing of Herb. The tone of these negotiations was positive as we remembered our beloved founder.
Making progress again this session, we reached another Tentative Agreement.
Article 1: Nondiscrimination (T.A.)
TWU Local 556 sought to modernize and update the non-discrimination language in Article 1. After much discussion, we reached an agreement that further ensures that the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement apply equally to all Members.
We engaged in further discussion on Management’s response to our proposal for Article 7- Probation Period and responded with a counteroffer. We had productive dialogue seeking solutions to address the issues that are generated when a large number of New Hires are continuously assigned to one base. Currently, the domicile most impacted is Oakland; although it could be any base.
At this time, Management has asked for time to respond to our proposed changes to Article 7- Probation Period. We are encouraged that we are on the way to finding a positive solution.
As we stated above, this session was productive and filled with cooperative energy as both teams paid tribute to Herb, including sharing the Companywide “Moment of Laughter” in his honor. Both parties worked to create solutions with Flight Attendant’s needs in mind. The tone, attitude, and interactions displayed during this session of bargaining was the greatest homage that could be paid to Herb. He fostered and ensured good Labor Management relationships. We’re hopeful this energy continues.
Our next negotiating session was scheduled for January 22, but we rescheduled to January 23, due to Herb’s “Celebration of Life”, scheduled for the 22nd.
