TWU LOCAL 556 NEGOTIATING COMMITTEE UPDATE #45
Your Only Official Source of Factual Information

On June 22 and 23, the TWU Local 556 Negotiating Committee met with the Company in two days of productive, in-depth discussions around topics including attendance and crew rest as mandated by the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018.

To meet the needs of Flight Attendants and to comply with the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018, the TWU Local 556 Negotiating Committee presented a side letter of agreement to the Company addressing urgent needs related to rest in an effort to advocate quickly for improved Member working conditions. This proposed language includes 10-hour rest and a proposal to protect the premiums (e.g., VJA or double time) Members currently have in the Contract. While it is difficult to predict with any level of certainty what the give and take of bargaining will produce as an end result, your Negotiating Committee is committed to protecting your premiums in the context of implementing the FAA’s 10-hour rest requirements. Additional matters related to the FAA Reauthorization Act will also be discussed in the future, but the Union is moving quickly to address the most urgent needs first. In order for this proposal to be enacted if an agreement is reached in negotiations, it would come first to the Executive Board for a 2/3 approval before being presented to the Membership for a vote.

Regarding attendance, the parties discussed and vetted a number of ideas, including incentives, to meet the needs of the Membership and the business. These discussions will also continue in earnest.

TWU Local 556 has presented July 28 and 29 as dates for subsequent discussions with the Company and looks forward to those being confirmed.

In Solidarity,

Your TWU Local 556 Negotiating Committee
