Recurrent Training (RT)

Friday, January 9, 2026

Q1: “How do I know what month I am scheduled for RT?”

Your scheduled RT month can be found on your CWA screen.

Q2: “I have RT in February. When and how do I bid?”

Bidding for RT takes place in CrewWeb/CWA. (CWA > Bid Input > Recurrent Training Bid) The RT bidding timeline can be found in Article 10.9 of our Contract.

RT Bidding Opens: 11th of the month prior at Noon CT
RT Bidding Closes: 17th of the month prior at Noon CT
RT Bidding Awards Posted: 18th of the month prior by Noon CT

This means that the protest period for RT bid awards is between 17th at Noon CT and 18th at Noon CT. To protest a bid award (Primary, Secondary, RT, etc.), you need to contact Inflight Crew Planning.

Q3(a): “I am scheduled for RT in June, but I have a really fun family vacation planned. Can I pick up RT the month before (May)?”

You can absolutely pick up out of RT Open Time for the month prior to your scheduled month, in your scheduled domicile (18th at 1800 CT) and out-of-base (27th at Noon CT the month prior to the month you’re picking up).

Example: Your RT month is June. You could pick up an Open Time RT date for your domicile starting on the 18th of the month prior by 1800 Local Time. In your situation, that means you can pick up an in-base RT date for May on April 18th by 1800 Local Time. (Article 10.9.B) If you would like to pick up RT from a different domicile, you could do so on April 27th at Noon CT. (Article 10.9.B.2)

It’s important to remember a couple of things

  1. Any pickups or trades must be completed by Noon Local Time the day before class. (Article 10.9.B.1)

  2. You can pick up and trade between domiciles for RT. (Article 10.9.B)

  3. Online modules will not be available until the first day of the month prior to your scheduled RT month.
Example: With your scheduled RT date in June, you would have access to your RT modules on May 1st. Why do we remind you about this? Because it’s very important that you give yourself enough time to finish the modules prior to class! This means that if you are picking up a RT date on May 2nd, you would not receive access to your required modules until May 1st.

Q3(b): “What about taking it the month after (July)?”

RT is federally mandated and must be completed within very specific timeframes to keep your FAR legal to work as a Flight Attendant. If you do not complete your mandatory training within the twelve (12) month timeframe, the FAA allows for a one (1) month “grace period”… before you become illegal to fly. Because of the very strict timeframe, you can only be scheduled for RT in your grace period due to illness or injury which prevents you from taking the mandatory training in your scheduled month. This can be a sick call without days to reschedule in your scheduled month and a leave of absence (medical, maternity, bereavement, etc.). You cannot choose to take RT in your “grace” month by trading

Q4: “I have RT tomorrow and am really sick! Can I report in sick for RT?”

Absolutely! If you are sick, you need to take the time needed to rest and recover. You can report sick for RT by using the ERS or calling Crew Scheduling. Once you are pulled from your scheduled RT, you can submit a valid quarterly Doctor’s note or PIN to excuse the absence and not accrue attendance points. If you do not submit a valid quarterly Doctor’s note or PIN, you will accrue 0.5 attendance points for your RT sick call. (Article 32.6)

You will be responsible for rescheduling your RT class. You can pick up a class from RT Open Time or contact SWA University to reschedule.

SWAUniversityLearningOperations-Inflight@wnco.com

IMPORTANT: If you do not reschedule your RT date (pick up from RT Open Time or contact SWA U) within seventy-two (72) hours, a date will be assigned and placed on your screen.

Q5: “How much am I paid for RT? Is it visible on my Payroll Report?”

Our Contract states that we will be paid 5.5 TFP or 0.65 TFP for each scheduled hour of classroom training, whichever is greater, for the in-person classroom portion of RT. Additionally, we are paid 0.5 TFP per scheduled hour for completion of the mandatory online RT modules. (Article 21.9) This pay will be contained in its own “TRAINING” bucket on your Payroll Report.
