Shifted Reserve TT/GA
Friday, December 13, 2024
Q1: “Do we still have unlimited trip trade/giveaway privileges with the new Shifted Reserve System?”
Absolutely!!! There are no restrictions on our flexibility.
Q2: “When can we trade / pick-up / give away the new shifted Reserve blocks?”
January TT/GA opens at Noon Central Time on December 19, 2024. All Reserve blocks can be traded, given away, or picked up until 1600 Central Time the day prior to the block.
Q3: “With the new shifted Reserve, can we still “block” our Reserve?”
We can! Due to rest restrictions and contactable times, there are a few restrictions when it comes to backing up specific Reserve types.
Q4: “Are picked up/traded blocks still combinable by Crew Scheduling?”
Yes. If two blocks are the same pink designation (“K” for original, “T” for traded, or “B” for picked up), then Crew Scheduling can automatically combine them for up to a 4-day assignment. Crew Scheduling can ask if you would like to combine beyond 4 days, but you are not obligated to. If two Reserve blocks have different designations, they are not automatically combinable by Crew Scheduling.
NOTE: The type of Reserve (SAR/SPR/JAR/JPR/JLR) does not affect combinability of blocks.
Q5: “I like to pick up back-to-back assignments (both Reserve blocks and pairings) and can never remember the required domicile break. Can we review domicile break duration requirements, please?”
Sure! With the introduction of the FAA 10-Hour Rest Rule in 2022, the requirements for mandatory rest have changed a touch. This is because there is no longer such a thing as “reduced rest.” The FAA mandates that we receive no less than ten (10) hours of rest (end of debrief/release from APSB to check-in), and this amount cannot be reduced by the Flight Attendant or Crew Scheduling. When you are arranging your schedule in advance, you must allow for at least eleven (11) hours of rest between the two assignments (from end of debrief/release from APSB to check-in). If the first assignment is a Reserve block, the calculation will use the release time of the Reserve block in CWA, which is the last scheduled arrival + debrief on that domicile day that you would be legal to work (dependent on your Reserve type). If you have completed one assignment and are in your rest period, you can reduce your scheduled domicile break to the FAR minimum of ten (10) hours.
