Contact During Crew Rest

Friday, October 4, 2024

Q1: “Do I have to answer my phone on my overnight?”

No. (Article 8.3.B)

Q2: “Do I have to answer my phone on my overnight if I am on Reserve?”

No. (Article 8.2.B)

Q3: “Crew Scheduling just called me on my overnight and I answered… do I have to accept the reschedule?”

Yes. If Crew Scheduling makes positive contact with you, then you must accept any legal reschedule they have for you. Refusal of an assignment is a violation of our Work Rules and could result in discipline up to and including termination.

Q4: “Do I get any additional pay if Crew Scheduling calls me on my overnight?”

We may only be contacted once during crew rest and are guaranteed seven (7) consecutive hours of uninterrupted crew rest (Article 8.3.C). Keep in mind that “contacted” means that Crew Scheduling called, and you answered the phone or returned their call. If you do not receive seven (7) consecutive hours of uninterrupted crew rest, you will be paid time and a half (1.5x) until you receive legal rest.

Q5: “I logged in to CWA and looked at the revised assignment. Can I get in trouble if I don’t self-acknowledge it?”

We are not required to self-acknowledge during crew rest. The choice is yours. If you prefer the reschedule and understand the revised assignment, go ahead and self-acknowledge.
