Shifted Reserve Overview
Friday, December 27, 2024
Q1: “What are the liable for contact times for all of our Reserve shifts?”
Q2: “What are the Commuter Policy requirements for Reserve?”
To be covered under the Commuter Policy as a Reserve, you must list and present yourself for one (1) SWA flight or two (2) offline flights that are scheduled to arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to when you are liable for contact. This means 0930 Local Time for SPR and JPR and 1430 Local Time for JLR. SAR and JAR must commute in the night prior to a Reserve block in order to be covered. Remember that the Commuter Policy only applies to the first day of a Reserve Block. (Article 33)
Q3: “I am on SPR and self-assigned a pairing that reports at 1600 Local Time. Can I commute in on a flight that lands at 1530 Local Time?”
NO! In order to be covered by the Commuter Policy and protect yourself from a potential Class 1.17 violation, you MUST list and present yourself for a flight(s) that is scheduled to arrive no later than 0930 Local Time… EVEN IF YOU HAVE SELF-ASSIGNED.
Q4: “I am a hardcore AM’er, and have a JAR block tomorrow. Can Crew Scheduling still give me a late PM check-in?”
With the new Shifted Reserve System, there are check-in time limitations on every Reserve type! Any assignment made by Crew Scheduling must check-in no more than 2:00 hours after the end of your contact time. Once per bid month, Crew Scheduling can assign a check-in between 2:01 and 4:00 hours after the end of your contact time. You will be paid 1.5x for the first duty period of that assignment including APSB. After you have worked such an assignment, you may decline any other assignments that report more than 2:00 hours after the end of your contact time for the remainder of that bid period. Crew Scheduling may offer you an assignment that reports more than 4:00 hours after the end of your contact time, but you are never required to accept such an assignment. If you chose to accept, the entire pairing would pay 2.0x.
Q5: “I was assigned APSB from 0500-1000. Do I still have to call to be released?”
Junior Reserve (JAR, JPR, and JLR) Flight Attendants assigned APSB should contact Crew Scheduling at the completion of their shift (5 hours and 1 minute). Once notified, Crew Scheduling will make any appropriate adjustments for domicile break and provide your contact time for the next day. Keep in mind that Crew Scheduling must give a flying assignment within the confines of the 5-hour APSB shift.
