TWU Local 556 Negotiation Update #6
Dear Member:
We were scheduled to meet with Management this week January 22– 24. Due to Herb’s Celebration of Life on January 22, and the Company’s earnings reports on January 24 this became an abbreviated session. We were able to enter into negotiations on January 23, then returned on January 24 for the Company’s quarterly earnings briefing for all labor Unions on property. As you have likely read or seen by now, we continue to be a highly profitable Company, posting another record year in profits.
The overall tone of this bargaining session was pragmatic. Management presented a counter-proposal to our Article 7 – Probation period proposal. As we stated previously, we are working to specifically solve the issue of a majority of New Hires being assigned to one domicile. During discussions, both parties reiterated our desire to resolve this issue, while setting the New Hire Flight Attendants up for success. We reviewed Management’s counter-proposal and responded with ours before the end of the session. We are hopeful that both parties can come to an agreement soon on Article 7.
We have requested data from the Company with regard to certain areas of concern related to uniforms. We indicated to Management once we receive and review the data, we would be able to pass a proposal on Article 13 – Uniforms. We hope to be able to do that when we meet with Management during our next negotiations session on January 29–30.
