Might Be Late (MBL) and Bonus MBL

Friday, October 11, 2024

Q1: “What is the difference between a quarterly MBL and a bonus MBL?”

Each calendar quarter, we can use one MBL to not accrue attendance points by calling Crew Scheduling prior to check-in to notify them we might be late. Annually, we can utilize one bonus MBL and not accrue attendance points. The bonus MBL can be used anytime throughout the year, including in a quarter where a regular MBL has been used.

Q2: “Do I need to do anything in order to use my bonus MBL?”

To utilize your bonus MBL, you must tell Scheduling that you are calling to use your “bonus MBL.” Failure to specify that you want to use the bonus MBL will result in Crew Scheduling attempting to apply the quarterly MBL. If you have already used your quarterly MBL and don’t specify that you’d like to use an available bonus MBL, you will accrue the 0.5 attendance points associated with an MBL for which points are applied. (Article 32.6)

Q3: “Does an MBL (quarterly or bonus) affect my record improvement?”

No. An MBL for which no points are accrued will not affect record improvement.

Q4: “How do I know if my bonus MBL has been applied correctly?

A regular MBL will be coded “MBL” and a bonus MBL will be coded “BMBL”.

Q5: “When do I need to report to the Aircraft or APSB if I use an MBL?”

It depends on whether you are a Lineholder or Reserve… and whether you are reporting for an assignment where the first leg is non-regulatory or regulatory. (Article 32.12)

  • For a Lineholder pairing, if you MBL for a non-regulatory requirement flight, you must report to the aircraft no later than 15 minutes prior to scheduled departure or a No Show will be applied.

  • For a Lineholder pairing, if you MBL for a regulatory requirement flight, you must report to the aircraft no later than 45 minutes prior to scheduled departure or a No Show will be applied.

  • A Reserve Flight Attendant can MBL for a flying assignment per the guidelines of the two bullet points above.

  • A Reserve Flight Attendant who MBLs for APSB who has been assigned a flying assignment that departs within one (1) hour of the original report time for APSB needs to report to the flying assignment without causing a delay or a No Show will be applied.

NOTE: A Reserve Flight Attendant who MBLs for APSB and has not been assigned a flying assignment scheduled to depart within one (1) hour of the originally scheduled report time of APSB, needs to report no later than one (1) hour from their originally scheduled APSB time or a No Show will be applied.
