Shifted Reserve Bidding

Friday, December 6, 2024

Q1: “When will be bidding for the new Shifted Reserve System?”

Since the new Shifted Reserve System begins in January 2025, we will bid for it during Secondary Bidding in December! Bidding opens at Noon Central Time on December 11th, and closes at Noon Central Time on December 14th. Bid results will be posted by Noon Central Time on December 15th, and protest will end at Noon Central Time on December 16th.

Q2: “How will I know which Reserve type I am bidding for?”

Just like today, the different Reserve types will be a specific color in EBS. Since there are now five (5) types of Reserve (SAR, SPR, JAR, JPR, JLR) there will be five (5) different colors.

Q3: “Since I am ‘junior’ does that mean I will only be awarded Junior Reserve?”

Nope! All Reserve awards are based on seniority, and everyone’s bid choice order. The most senior people in the base could choose to bid Junior Reserve for specific days off… and then Senior Reserve would be awarded to the “junior” Flight Attendants – just like today with AM, PM and Ready Reserve.

Q4: “Since I only like working AMs I am only going to bid SAR and JAR. I won’t get awarded a Reserve type I didn’t bid for, right?”

Just like today, as long as you bid enough choices to meet your seniority on the Reserve Seniority Bid List you will be awarded a line that you bid for. If you are #450 and you only bid 400 choices, and all of those choices were awarded to someone senior to you, then you will be awarded any remaining line… and it can be ANY Reserve type.

Q5: “Since there are now five types of Reserve, does that mean there will be more people on Reserve than normal?”

No. The total number of Reserve lines will not change, they will just now be divided into five types (SAR, SPR, JAR, JPR, JLR) instead of three (3) types (AMR, PMR, RR).
